umsl-campusA new project at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, the UMSL International Accelerator, is launching this month with the goal of creating pathways for international entrepreneurs to accelerate the growth of their businesses in St. Louis.

The accelerator has received a $50,000 gift from Civic Progress, an organization of CEOs and other executives working to improve the quality of community and business life in St. Louis, according to an UMSL press release.

Entrepreneurs accepted into the accelerator program will be provided with cap-exempt H-1B visas, enrollment in a 12-week business-building curriculum, discounted office space, network development, mentorship and access to capital.

Participants will be required to work with the UMSL community by collaborating with faculty on academic research and program development and offering students paid internships, mentorships and jobs.

“Entrepreneurship is not a fad – it’s here to stay,” Dan Lauer, executive director of UMSL Accelerate, said in a press release. “UMSL is growing its innovation and entrepreneurial muscle to take its rightful place in the changing ecosystem.”
